Cricket Match Preview:
Australia will be taking on Sri Lanka in a two-match test series. After the recently concluded test series against India, where they lost against them for the first time ever, this cricket series against Sri Lanka brings opportunity to them to get some victories under their belt. On the other hand, like India, Sri Lanka have the golden opportunity to register a series win against Australia in Australia.
Australia lost the test series against India by a margin of 2-1 and that would have disappointed them a great deal. Their first-choice bowlers failed to make an impression against their Indian counterparts. Their bowlers, barring Nathan Lyon and Pat Cummins, were disappointing and there were some criticisms of the way Josh Hazlewood and Mitch Starc bowled.
Their inexperienced batsmen also failed to make an impression. While that is understandable, the performances of Usman Khawaja and Shaun Marsh left a lot to be desired. Shaun Marsh and Peter Handscomb have been dropped from the squad now and the likes of Marcus Harris and Travis Head have another opportunity.
Sri Lanka also had a disappointing cricket series against New Zealand in New Zealand. While in the first cricket test match, the performance of Kusal Mendis and Angelo Matthews saved the test match for them, in the second cricket test match, there was no such miracle. While their bowling was slightly better than their batting even that could have done better.
Their batting has still not managed to be consistent despite having a few players who have played lots of test matches now. The likes of Kusal Mendis and Dinesh Chandimal will have to consistently score runs if Sri Lanka have to become a formidable cricket side once again. It would still take a special performance from Sri Lanka to beat an inexperienced Australian cricket line up.
Cricket Match Information:
Struggling Australia and Sri Lanka will face each other in a two cricket match test series. This will be the last test series for both sides before the upcoming cricket World Cup. Both sides have had poor last few months and both would be looking to do better than the other.
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
Australia have brought about quite a few changes to their squad since the last cricket test match against India. Our prediction is of the inclusion of likes of JA Burns and WJ Pucovski to the playing eleven.
Here is our prediction of Australia’s playing XI:
- JA Burns
- Marcus Harris
- Usman Khwaja
- WJ Pucovski
- Marnus Labuschagne
- Travis Head
- Tim Paine
- Mitch Starc
- Pat Cummins
- Nathan Lyon
- Josh Hazlewood
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
Sri Lanka had another cricket series loss against New Zealand. Our prediction is of the same playing eleven as their last cricket game against New Zealand with the exception of injured Angelo Matthews.
Here is our prediction of Sri Lanka’s playing XI:
- MD Gunathalika
- FDM Karunaratne
- Dinesh Chandimal
- Kusal Mendis
- Dilruwan Perera
- ARS Silva
- Niroshan Dickwella
- HDRL Thirimanne
- RAS Lakmal
- PVD Chameera
- CB Kumara
Cricket Statistics and Prediction:
Usman Khawaja is under pressure. Being the senior batsman in the lineup full of inexperienced players, he has to take the extra responsibility of scoring big hundreds. Our prediction is of a good performance against Sri Lanka.
Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:
The last international cricket test match played here was between Australia and England. It was the first test match of the Ashes cricket series. In that cricket game, Australia emerged victorious by a 10-wicket margin. Generally, the pitch in Brisbane has a lot of bounce and carry for the bowlers, which also means true bounce for batsmen and they can play their strokes. Our prediction is of a good cricket game. Conditions are expected to be dry.
Australia will begin this game of cricket as favourites. Despite having a real torrid time ever since the sandpaper gate in South Africa, they are still a good side at home. Even against India, they managed to win a cricket test match at Perth, which shows that if provided with traditional Australian conditions, they can still do the damage to the opponents.
Top Batsman (Prediction):
Usman Khawaja (AUS) – 50+ runs
Top Bowler (Prediction):
Pat Cummins (AUS) – 4 or more wickets
Most Sixes (Prediction):
Pat Cummins (AUS)
Australia – 1.22
Draw – 8.00
Sri Lanka – 6.50
