Cricket Match Preview:
The biggest festival of the year begins in India as the 23rd March marks the beginning of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2019. The festival has come early this year due to elections in the month of April and May in India. The final of the IPL will be played on 12th May and it will be hosted by Chennai. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will begin the tournament by taking on each other in the first cricket game.
The first cricket game of this year’s IPL could not have been bigger. When MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, arguably the two biggest names of world cricket, will walk their teams out in Chepauk, nothing short of a blockbuster game of cricket will be expected. While on one hand, we have three-time champion CSK, on the other hand, we have RCB who are yet to win the tournament.
There have been some changes to all the cricket teams with some new buys and transfers within the teams. Amidst this, the core of CSK remains the same. Like last year, where most of their players are in the 30s, we will also see CSK sticking to their tried and tested formulas this year. One big blow to them will be the injury of Lungi Ngidi, who was perhaps their best fast bowler in the squad.
RCB, on the other hand, have made one transfer with Kings Eleven Punjab. They have opted for Australian all-rounder Marcus Stoinis in place of South Africa’s Quinton de Kock, who opened for RCB last year. Apart from that, they have brought in West Indies’ young talent Shimron Hetmyer and Indian all-rounder Shivam Dubey. But the biggest names of RCB remain to be Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.
RCB, with all their big names, have faltered in quite a few seasons now. In fact, since Virat Kohli has become the skipper of the franchise, the team has managed to make it in the playoffs only two times. It is now time for them to deliver for the sake of millions of fans across the country. CSK, on the other hand, will be in search of their fourth title, which will make them the most successful team of the IPL.
Cricket Match Information:
Defending champions CSK will take on RCB in the first cricket game of IPL 2019. CSK were the champions of last year’s IPL and that took their total count of IPL trophies to three, whereas RCB are yet to win the tournament so far.
Chennai Super Kings
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
CSK will be led by the ever so dependable MS Dhoni. Under his leadership, they have been three-time champions. Our prediction is of almost the same playing eleven that played the final last year.

- Shane Watson
- Faf du Plessis
- Suresh Raina
- Ambati Rayudu
- MS Dhoni
- DJ Bravo
- Kedar Jadhav
- Deepak Chahar
- Mohit Sharma

Royal Challengers Bangalore
Probable XI (Our Prediction):
RCB will be led by Virat Kohli like in previous seasons. Our prediction is of changes to their playing eleven since the last cricket game they played in the IPL.
Here is our prediction of RCB’s playing XI:

- AB de Villiers
- Shimron Hetmyer
- Moeen Ali

Cricket Statistics and Prediction:
Virat Kohli is yet to win the tournament for RCB. This might just be his last chance so he will look to perform with both bats and with his captainship. Our prediction is of a good performance from him in this game of cricket.
Cricket Match Conditions and Pitch:
The last international cricket ODI cricket played here was between India and West Indies in 2018. That game saw India chase down the total of 181 set by West Indies. The pitch in Chennai has always had low bounce and it provides some help for the spinners. Our prediction is of a score of around 180 this time around. Conditions are expected to be dry.
CSK will begin this game of cricket as favourites. They have beaten RCB in the last five consecutive cricket games. Hence, our prediction is of the continuation of that dominance.
Top Batsman (Prediction):
Virat Kohli (RCB) – 50+ runs
Top Bowler (Prediction):
Mohit Sharma (CSK) – 2 or more wickets
Most Sixes (Prediction):
Shane Watson (CSK)
Chennai Super Kings – 1.74
Royal Challengers Bangalore – 1.90
